UNCOVERING ROME.

OF IMPERIAL TIMES. ROME, May 8. The work of demolishing the remaining dwelling houses on the triangle plot of land separating the Imperial Way from the market of Trajan in Borne has now been almost completed. Only a small and historically unimportant church remains' standing, and in a few weeks' time the ground will be broken up. It will then be dug down to the level of the ancient city, thus leaving the Imperial Way, which was opened last year, to stand like a viaduct conveying the traffic of modern Rome across the ruins of the past, for on the opposite side it already flanks the Roman Forum. The present work will also open the main portion of the Forum of Trajan, of which only the northern corner had hitherto been excavated, and Senator Corrado Ricci, who is in charge, hopes to find in the centre, some trace of the famous equestrian statue of the Emperor, whose name the Forum bears.

Meanwhile, across on the other side of the Imperial Way the excavation of tho Temple of Venus continues, and the architectural features of the building can nqv" be clearly seen.
