"GRAFTING" VOICES.
American Accent for British Film Stars. PRODUCERS PROTEST. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 14. A report that American accents will be "grafted"; to British actors' and actresses' voices in talkies to make them acceptable to,. America's MiddleWest, has aroused' the opposition of British producers. The first picture scheduled for this treatment, "Faithful I Heart," was made in London starring i Herbert Marshall and Edna Best, the producers of which are endeavouring to ' prevent its mutilation. It is pointed out that British audiences for five years endured harsh American voices, but an American accent in a British setting ' wt>uld be often comical.
