SOCIETY OF FRIENDS.
DOMINION DELEGATES GATHER
MESSAGES FROM OTHER LANDS,
The annual general meeting of the Society of Friends is now being held in Auckland, delegates being present from all parts of New Zealand. At the opening of the annual meeting Mr. E. Dowsett, of Wellington, referred to the centenary of Ann Fletcher Jackson, an English Quaker, who came from England in 1879 with her husband and seven children and settled north of Whangarei, and the good work she subsequently did in the interests of Quakerism in New Zealand and Australia, Mr. A. Gregory, of Dargaville, and Mr. M. Goldsbury, of New Plymouth, paid tributes to the pioneer work. Messages, which are known to Quakers as "epistles," were read from Szechwan, West China, Japan, Austria. Germany, Ireland and the United States. There were also messages from English friends. Two delegates taking part in the meeting are Miss Margaret Millburn and Miss Jennie Street. The latter recently arrived from England, and is widely known for her work in connection with the Christian Endeavour movement.
