CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. ; At the : aviation carnival, which was r held at Wigram Aerodrome yesterday in 3 the presence of 5000 people, spectacular displays of flying were given by D. M. Allan (Auckland), Olson (Otago)i Ger- • rard (Hawke's Bay) and Smith (South- ' land). Air Force officers gave a demon--3 stration of formation flying, remarkable t for precision. Pilot-Officer "Scotty" I Fraser made his 185 th parachute jump, i and various minor novelties in the proi gramme were much appreciated by the crowd. The success of the pageant was 1 due largely to excellent organisation by - Captain J. C. Mercer," the Canterbury i Club's instructor, and helpful co-operation - by the Air Force. • , The results of the landing competitions were:—Club-trained pilots: E. Meredith (Western Federated) 1, A. E. Willis 1 (Marlborough) 2. Commercial licensed J pilots: lan Keith (Western Federated) 1, S|J. Smith (Southland) 2.
