GOVERNMENT DECIDES , WIDER EMPLOYMENT RANGE. GOLD MINING AT THAMES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. The Government has been hoping to extend the range of employment by undertaking important public works of
a reproductive nature, financed partly «. from loan money and the remainder from the unemployment fund, the wages paid being standard rates. All Ministers have been closely con-, i cerned in the question this week, and tho Unemployment Board's conference with Cabinet was lengthy. Mr. J. S. Jessep, deputy-chairman of the board, left on Satiuday afternoon to investigate the progress of gold prospecting by relief workers in the Thames and Coromandcl areas.
