(Sent in by Kae Watts, 1, Lyon Avenue, Mount Albert.) You all know the Kingfisher In his bright colours, but many years ago lie was not so beautiful as he is to-day. Then ho was white, but as he lived by the river and fed on fish liis colour was a «roat grief to him, becan.se the lish could see his very white breast when he tried to catch them, while the hawks in the sky above could easily n-ukc him ot:t and swoop down to eat him and his .. fellows. But Mother X;:lun. took |»it v on hint. She changed hi" l co* inr and j.'Jve him a yellow breast and a bright b:uc back. And now the kii-.irfi.'.ier lives happily, because tlie hi 1 wk« think that his blue back is the reilwt. nil oi. the blue sky in the water, a;:d tw fish 011 the bottom of the river think that his yellow breast is just a flashing sunbeam.
