THE FLOWER GARDEN.

Plant Anemones and Ranunculi. Attend to tying up and disbudding of Chrysanthemums. Cuttings of Roses can be planted now. Prepare ground for planting out spring-flowering plants. Propagate Violas, Pansies, Calceolarias, Pentstemons. Lawns that have been prepared and are ready for sowing should be raked and sown. This is the best time of the year to make alterations and additions to the flower beds and borders. Do not allow fallen leaves to lie about the paths and lawns. Ralce them up and either dig them in at once or stack them till decayed. Clear away all spent plants and prepare the ground for replanting with spring-flowering plants. Hedges, except Conifers, should be cut. Plant out Primulas and Polyanthus, also Cinerarias. These latter need a sheltered, frost-free position. Prepare Sweet Pea trenches. Onion seed for spring planting can be sown now. Lift and store Kumaras and Potatoes when ready. Pumpkins, Melons, Marrows and Squash should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated shed. Earth up Celery as necessary. Topdress winter Rhubarb. Stable manure is best, but superphosphate loz to the square yard, with occasional applications of fowl manure, is a good substitute. Collect and bury yellow, pest-riddled leaves of Cabbage. Make sowings of Lettuce, Radish, Spinach, Turnips. Prepare ground for early planting of Potatoes and Peas. A sowing of Broad Beans can be made. These are useful for heavy soils and cold districts.
