OTAHUHU BOROUGH QUARRY.
In an address at Otahuhu the Mayor, in justifying the quarry loss, is reported to have stated that metal was supplied by the borougli quarry at 10/ per yard, while the price from outside sources would have been from 12/ to 14/ per yard. Surely it must have been known that for the past two or three years metal has been supplied to contiguous local bodies for as low as 7/9 per yard delivered, for all grades. This represents a quarry price of about 6/ per yard, so that Otahuhu quarry has made a double loss to the Otahuhu ratepayers, and been an extremely poor investment. Even if the 10/ rate was intended to be the delivered rate it still represents a lose to the borough of 2/3 per yard in addition to tlio disclosed loss on quarry working. RATEPAYER.
