ORDERED TO CAMP.
I am sorry that I find it necessary to make a public appeal on behalf of local men working under No. 5 scheme, who are ordered to camp. Three men, two of whom are married, are ready to go, but are quite unable to provide tlia necessities for camp, such as 'blankets. The winter is beginning, and to take the blankets that they possess at homo would mean depriving their wives and children of bedding, with all its dangerous consequences. They are \mable to go to camp without blankets and' warm clothing, and likewise cannot leave their wives and families destitute. The Labour Department does not supply the necessary requisites required at camp, and the Metropolitan Social Servico only supplies boots at half price. These men have been told that unless they go to camp there' is no further work for them under Xo. » scheme. What is to bo done? They will havo to go, but I cannot sec them go without blankets.
