"A TRICK OF FATE."

LOSS OF THE MIZPAH. (To the Editor.) I consider your correspondent "Amateur Sailor" has shown bad taste in referring to this tragedy at such an early date, and to pick out any particular person concerned seems a serious breach, of etiquette. However, as the subject is now opened, let us consider it. To say that a small boat sailing along an unknown coast in bad weather is doomed to destruction is laughable. How do those small boats like the Suva yacht Seafarer, the Norwegian Teddy and hosts of others manage} They have never seen our shores before. The point is that a knowledge of a coast is not essential, provided the skipper has good charts and is careful and experienced, all of which I know personally to apply to the late Mr. Kelleway. I will continue to believe that the wreck was a trick of fate such as piled the Teddy on Kawau on a calm, clear day after covering'many thousands of miles of treacherous ocean.. LARBOARD WATCH.
