BEST HEN EGGS DEAR. MORE ISLAND ORANGES. BETTER SALE FOR VEGETABLES. Further supplies of Raratongan oranges arrived yesterday. Dessert apples of good quality are now meeting with fair demand, but cookers are difficult to sell. Louis Bon of Jersey and Winter Cole pears are selling readily at fair rates where the fruit is of good quanta. Cooking pears arc not in good demand, and low prices rule. The demand for tomatoes is now easing off. Supplies of passion fruit are getting short. Hothouse grapes are very slow of sale, but now that outdoor-grown are about done, an improvement may set in- There is only a fair demand for ripe bananas. Prime quality lemons sell readily. Quotations are:— Apples: Dessert, Jonathan, 4/ to 6/ per case; Delicious, 2/ to 6/; Spys, S/ to 6/6; Salome, 3/ to 4/; Brighton, 3/ to 4/; Baljarat, 3/3 to 4/; Munro, 2/6 to 4/; Granny Smith, 3/6 to 6/. Pears: Dessert, Coles and Nelis, 7/ to 10/; Louis Bon, 7/6 to 10/; cookers, Keiffers, 3/ to 5/; P. Barry, 3/6 to 5/. Passion fruit: 4/ to 7/6. Oranges: Californian, 32/6 to 37/6; Fiji, 12/ to 13/; Raratongan, 12/ to 16/. Tomatoes: 4/ to 9/; inferior, 2/ to 4/, Bananas: Original, to 13/; ripe, 18/ to 25/. Tree tomatoes: New Black, 6/ to 8/. Capo gooseberries: 2%d to 3%d per lb. Quinces: 4/6 to 8/ per case. Lemons: 6/ to 14/. Grapes: Hothouse, extra choice Colman, 1/3 to 1/6 per lb: others, 8d to 1/; Black Hamburg, 6d to 9d. Vegetables. Supplies of vegetables have been ample, but since the cold weather set in there has been a better demand. Good sound potatoes, free from blight and rust, meet with ready sale at much better prices, but low rates have to be accepted to clear lines of inferior quality. Only fair supplies of cabbage and cauliflower came to hand this week from Ohakune, and also Rotorua. Lettuce and pumpkins are a glut on the market. Kumaras are in fair supply; and met with better demand this week. Onions are very dull of sale, as the quality for keeping is not good. Fansupplies of good quality celery are coming to hand. Quotations ai-e:^-Potatoes. 1/ to 4/ per bag; swedes, 1/6 to 3/ per bag; onions, 1/6 to 2/6 per bag; kumaras, 2/ to 3/ per bag; cabbages, 4/ to 7/ per sack; cauliflowers, 5/6 to 8/6 per sack; pumpkins, best Crown, 5/ to 5/6 per cwt; cucumbers, 2/ to 4/6 per dozen; carrots, 6d to 1/ per dozen; parsnips, 9d to 1/3 dozen; beet, 6d to 9d per dozen; turnips, 6d per dozen; radish, 6d per dozen; spring onions, 4d to 9d per bundle; spinach, 6d to '9d per dozen; leeks. Id to 3d per bundle; green peas, 4/ to 10/ per bag; French beans. 1/ to 5/ per bag; marrows, 1/ to 3/ per dozen; melons, citron, 3/ sack; lettuce, 6d to 4/6 per case; celery, cooking, 6d to 9d per bundle; dessert, 1/ to 1/9 per bundle; rhubarb, 1/ to 2/ per dozen. Eggs and Butter. First grade hen eggs maintained the advance in price noted in last report. B and C grade remain unaltered, also duck eggs. Quotations are:—-First grade hei eggs, 2/1% per dozen; B grade, 1/8%: and C grade, 1/4%. First grade duck eguts, 1/9%; B grade, 1/7%; and C grade, 1/4%. Farmers' butter, 6d to 8d per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was heavy, and the demand wag fair. The prices paid remained about level. Selling rates were as follow:— Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime? 2/6 to 4/3 each, not prime 1/6 up; light breeds, prime 2/ to 3/, not prime 1/ up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/6 to 2/; light breeds, 1/ to 1/6. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/9 to 2/6; light breeds, 1/ to 1/6. Laying hens: • Heavy breeds, 2/ to 2/6; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/6. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 3/ to 5/. smaller 1/6 up: light breeds, best 3/ to _ 5/, smaller 1/6 ttp. Drakes: Young, prime 1/9 to 2/6, smaller 1/3 un. Ducks: Young. 2/ to 3/; old, 1/3 to 1/6. Drakes: Old, 1/3 to 1/6.
