Sir Yal Beaten Into Fourth Position in the Rosebank.

Transaction and' Regardez -were the only withdrawals from the Rosebank Handicap, with which the meeting opened, leaving a field of 21 runners, of which Sir ,Val, Miss Lulu, and Arawa Rose were best backed. The winner, however, turned up in Sweet Whisper, the mare paying in the vicinity of a score on the straight-out machine. Miss Rewa was first -to show out from Miss Lulu, Supreme Ruler, JTotamint, Armutum, Kilmuir. and Loombination. Across the' top the order was Miss Lulu, Miss Rewa, Supreme Ruler,' Phiakuo, Notamint, and Loombination. Phiakuo then made a fast run up and was first to turn for home from Miss Lulu, Loombination, Notamint, and Sweet Whisper. Half way down the■ straight Phiakuo dropped out, Miss Lulu in charge frord Loombination and' Sweet Whisper. The : last-named made, a good •run and got; up ,in tijne ,to beat Miss Lulu by a; nteck, with Loombination a Jepgth and a half away third. Air, and- Glenhaupo were scratched ; for the .Avondale Highweight Handicap, leaving a field of seven. Courthaven was favourite, while High Commissioner , a,nd Grand ■ Spirit also had support. Going out of the straight Regardez and Singleton were in front, followed by Biform, Grand Spirit, Courthaven, High Commissioner, and Safe Bank. Grand Spirit took charge before the back stretch was reached from Singleton, Biform, Regardez, Courthaven, , High- Commissioner, and Safe Bank. Gold Pocket was first to turn for home from Rapper, My Money, Cherry King, King Mestor, Coronis and Rereatu. Half way down, Rapper came through on the inside and bsat-Gold Pocket by a ji eck, with Rereatu two lengths ' away third. Cherry King was fourth, followed by Coronis, My Money and Kihg Mestor.
