Sir Yal Beaten Into Fourth Position in the Rosebank.

Transaction and' Regardez -were the only withdrawals from the Rosebank Handicap, with which the meeting opened, leaving a field of 21 runners, of which Sir ,Val, Miss Lulu, and Arawa Rose were best backed. The winner, however, turned up in Sweet Whisper, the mare paying in the vicinity of a score on the straight-out machine. Miss Rewa was first -to show out from Miss Lulu, Supreme Ruler, JTotamint, Armutum, Kilmuir. and Loombination. Across the' top the order was Miss Lulu, Miss Rewa, Supreme Ruler,' Phiakuo, Notamint, and Loombination. Phiakuo then made a fast run up and was first to turn for home from Miss Lulu, Loombination, Notamint, and Sweet Whisper. Half way down the■ straight Phiakuo dropped out, Miss Lulu in charge frord Loombination and' Sweet Whisper. The : last-named made, a good •run and got; up ,in tijne ,to beat Miss Lulu by a; nteck, with Loombination a Jepgth and a half away third. Sir Val was fourth, followed by' Sandy Dix, Phiakuo, and Arawa Rose. An Overdue Win. Kiltowyn," Free . Air, and- Glenhaupo were scratched ; for the .Avondale Highweight Handicap, leaving a field of seven. Courthaven was favourite, while High Commissioner , a,nd Grand ■ Spirit also had support. Going out of the straight Regardez and Singleton were in front, followed by Biform, Grand Spirit, Courthaven, High Commissioner, and Safe Bank. Grand Spirit took charge before the back stretch was reached from Singleton, Biform, Regardez, Courthaven, , High- Commissioner, and Safe Bank. Crossing the top Biform had run up second to Grand Spirit, but there was little alteration in -the positions' of- the' others. _ They * came into the' straight, in. this 'ordar, and Grand Spirit went on to win by a neck from Biform, who beat Courthaven by two lengths. • Then came High Commissioner, Safe Bank, ' Singleton, and Regardez. • ' ' ; • Rapper at Last.; Rapper was favourite on both machines for the, Oakley Handicap, a race for two-year-oldsj withl Rereatu arid King Mestor next ;bes't backed. From a beautiful start Rapper, King Mestor and Gold Pocket were the first to go out, and across the top Gold Pocket "vy,as in charge from Rapper, My' Money, King Mestor, Coronifl and Cherry King, with Rereatu last. Gold Pocket was first to turn for home from Rapper, My Money, Cherry King, King Mestor, Coronis and Rereatu. Half way down, Rapper came through on the inside and bsat-Gold Pocket by a ji eck, with Rereatu two lengths ' away third. Cherry King was fourth, followed by Coronis, My Money and Kihg Mestor. The Big Event. Master Brierly was the only defection from the Foley Memorial Handicap, the chief event of ..the' day, 1 L'Allegro was - favourite on the straight machine and Royal Artist was favourite on the place machine, Grand Tea being - next *in demand. Psychologist, Valroe, and L'Allegro wei;e first out, but, going out of", the straight L'Allegro had taken charge from- Psychologist, Valroe, Grand Tea, Royal Artist, Merry Damon, Alloy, and Taneriri. ■ Along .the' back Valroe r had joined L'Allegro in the lead, the pair being attended by. Psychologist, Grand Tea, Royal Artist, Merry Damon, and Alloy, with Taneriri still last. There was practically no change across the. top, L'Allegro. leading into the straight from Valroe, Alloy, Grand Tea, Royal Artist, Psychologist, and Merry Damon. L'Allegro' then drew out, and, stalling off Merry Damon over the. last 50 'yiards, beat him by a length, with Alloy a length'and a' half away third, followed by Psychologist,' Valroe, Grand Tea, Royal Artist, and Taneriri.
