LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

BOARD OF CONTROL. CLUB PERCENTAGES RETAINED. DRAW FOR OPENING DAY, At tlie meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Board of Control last evening, the chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, said it was his definite opinion that the policy of granting gate percentages to senior clubs should be retained. It was up to clubs to produce a, high standard of play and' the percentage was no doubt an incentive. He considered that the best 'course was to allow the present system to continue. Thus, the responsibility of providing football that would attract patronage rested upon the clubs. The matter could be reviewed at the end of the first round. This was approved and it means that the clubs will also retain the present limit of vice-presidents. The secretary was instructed to advise clubs that the now chairman would be pleased to meet all clubs, after first meeting the delegates on the 26th instant, when a suggestion will be made that the seniors should concede a small amount weekly from percentage returns to help strengthen the player insurance fund.' The chairman said he hoped all club executives would make a special effort to make this season one of marked progress. * The usual donation for the use of the Northcote and -Birkenhead school ground last year was granted on the recommendation of the junior management committee. On the recommendation of the chairman it was decided to assist Otahuhu Rovers Club financially in regard to the use of Sturgess Park, Otahuhu, which the club hopes to use one Saturday in every four. h. Barchard was granted'a transfer from City Rovers to Dcvonport United. New registrations approved were: J. W. Donald (ex-College Rifles Rugby Union Club) to JDevonport; Maurice ill. Metcalfe (Avondale) and Alfred D. Mitchell (Sandringhain) to Richmond Rovers. Newton Rangers reported the suspension of A. O. l'orteous for his attitude to the club secretary. The action was endorsed. The Manukau Club advised that arrangements for the exhibition matches between Marist Old Boys and Devonport United seniors and reserves at Onehunga on Saturday were completed. The chairman said it was considered necessary to stage all top teams on Carlaw Park on the first day and reserve teams would play in front of top teams whenever it was reasonably possible. It was reported that the club season matches were arranged so that there would be a minimum of interruption, and provision had been made by pencillings for matches by teams from Taranaki, Wellington, Hawke's Bay, Northland and West Coast.
