USE OF SULPHIDE OF POTASSIUM.
Sulphide of potassium should <l>o used in every garden, as it is one of the most valuable and adaptable of garden remedies. Used at the rate of loz in 10 gallons of water, it acts as a preventive of many fungoid diseases, and is perfectly harmless to foliage. If applied at twice or three times, the strength of the above, it is a powerful fungicide, but rather apt to injure the delicate foliage under certain conditions. For use out of doors, the strength of application must be adjusted to the weather. For such plants a« hops and roses, loz in three gallons of water is the maximum strength for cool, damp weather, while in hot, bright weather, and with a somewhat flagging plant, loz in six or seven gallons of water is the limit of safety. Enough soft soap to make a good lather should always be added to secure a thorough wetting of the plant. It should be remembered that the liver of sulphur will blacken white lead paint, and for the inside of the greenhouse zinc white should bo used instead of lead paint, , and thus the blackening may be avoided.
