A SURE DWELLING PLACE.

(By DR. CHARLES BROWN.)

The whole world is passing through a grave economic crisis. Everything is insecure. Men who thought they were wealthy have discovered that they are poor. People who live in stocks and shares find their house crumbling about their ears. If the only comfort we can get is to be found in material circumstances our plight is distressing enough. Yet even in these times the word of the Prophet is true, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee; because he trusteth in Thee." How is this consciousness of God to be attained? Well, never without effort on our part. The battle is to keep first things first, to keep the soul on top. We must make the Lord our habitation. By a definite and determined effort we must set Him always before us, practise His presence, beginning on awakening every morning. Begin the day with God. Then we must cultivate trust in God, trust and obedience. The hymn refrain is absolutely right: " Trust and obey, there's no other way To be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey." Turn your eyes to the Cross and realise in that supreme manifestation the love of God for you. Let that revelation dispel doubt and rebuke disobedience. "Hereby know we that we are in Him if we keep His Commandments." There must be the resolute determination to admit nothing into life, and to cut everything out, that is contrary to the will of God. It is surely one of the greatest things in the world and worth more than all its wealth to be able* to say, whatever comes or goes -of material good or human favour: Xothing can separate me from the love of God! When the storm breaks He i 6 my shelter, and when the earthly house of this tabernacle dissolves He is my eternal HomeJ
