THREE BEAUTIES.
The beautiful things of liffe are three, A -woman, the sun, and a poplar tree; A beautiful woman with laughing eyes Made the heart in my bosom rise; And she was faithful and true to me, And straight she was, as a poplar tree. The sun on a long white boach will shine And make the breakers a blinding line, And dear as the love of a maid to me Is the golden blue o£ a summer sea. The poplar tree at the garden's end Is tall and straight, and yet will bend. When the sun falls through the poplar tree My beautiful maid comes back to me: Lithe and slim as the tree itself. With the dancing eyes of a childish elf: For the beautiful things of life are three: A woman, the sun, and a poplar tree. CHARLES STUART PERKr. Cbristchurch.
