TE AROHA TOPICS

KING'S ARCHER'S PROGRESS.

DON'T LAP DOING WELL.

Unoco was not accepted for at the Auckland meeting, as it was considered he had not been in work sufficiently long to run out a two miles journey. It is intended to race ethe Some Boy 11. gelding at the Waikato meeting next mopth, and all being well lie will be at Ellerslie for the June meeting. S.nce his return from the Bay of Plenty meetings Chateau has not joined the track workers, but is being used as a liack on a hillside farm and fed regularly. As a matter of fact the Quin Abbey gelding puts in a full share of paddock work on his own account, and when taken up again shortly will quickly come to hand. The Mimga-toon-Lady Wallace two-year-old gelding now being broken in, is to be given light work during the winter months, and it is expected that he will be ready to carry Mr. Cliff Reid's colours in the early spring. The two-year-old full sister to Lady Musk has had a setback consequent upon a cold, and it is more than likely that she will not be seen out this racing season. In the meantime her owner, Mr. A. J. Monds, will have to rely upon Marble King. As good hurdle horses are not very numerous thiß season the Marble Arch gelding is quite likely to prove a payable proposition. Now that the training tracks are becoming somewhat easier J. H. Wallace will be enabled to move Good Run along smartly in his work The Hunting Song gelding showed the possession of pace when he ran second to Carfex at Ellerslie in November last, and but for becoming slightly stiff in the joints would have run prominently during the season. Both owner and trainer have been very patient with him, but should be repaid in due course. Miss Lorraine's recent work has been of a light nature. This mare has plenty of speed, and if during the autumn she manages to display better staying capacity she will join the winning brigade of C. E. Mallowfs' stable. Although not accepted for in the President's Handicap at Ellerslie, there is nothing amiss with King's Archer, and it will not be long before he is again racing in public. As he is showing improvement week by week lie should be in nice racing trim for the Avondale fixture. Mr. E. G. Gardiner's Royal Sacret is being treated to a spell and may not start again until the next racing season. Like her dam, Elope, the King Lu filly is a little on the small side, but may develop as a three-year-old. . The Lapidary filly Tin Lap is now being trained bv her owner, Mr. J. Whitten, of Wailiou. Her condition is very solid, and if properly placed there is no reason why she should not score a win in due course. Track watchers have a good word to say for Don't Lap, because his work is invariably of a consistent nature. C. E■ Mallowes has previously won with him and should do so again.
