COMING CHAMPIONS.

OVER 7000 COMPETITORS.

BIG MEETING AT DOMAIN.

Shrill young voices vied with, the blare of radio music at the Domain to-day, when the Auckland Primary Schools Amateur Athletic Association held their annual sports carnival. Although threatening. the weather remained fine throughout the morning, light rain not falling until the luncheon adjournment was being taken. , , The carnival is the largest sports nieeting held in the Dominion. This year the 56 affiliated schools entered 7615 pupils boys 2958, girls 3197, folk dancers 1460. In the boys' events competition was keen, and a number of new records were established. No records were broken this morning in the girls' events, although in a number of instances the previous best time was equalled. I In addition to the competitors there were many hundreds of juvenile onlookers, as well as a fair sprinkling of parents and friends. Everyone was welcome, with tne exception of swarms of flying ants, which made tlieir presence felt at intervals. The events were got off well to time, reflecting considerable credit on tne officials responsible for the big tourney. ' Trophies Presented. After the morning programme had been completed, Mr. H. I. Blow, president of the Public Schools' Cricket Association, presented to four boys trophies for outstanding performances in the W3Z intergroup representative matches. They were: Warwick Lawson (New Lynn), 25 wickets, best analysis, eight for 21; Archer (Devonport), 20 wickets; Marshall (Gladstone), batting, best ettort, 104 not out; Malcolm Rowntree (Owairaka), batting, 103 not out.
