LABOURER SENT BACK TO PKISON.
Arthur William Geoffrey Mold (29), labourer, who last week elected to be tried by a jury, appeared in the Police Court this morning, when he ohanged his plea to guilty and agreed to be dealt with by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., on a charge of attempting to steal two motor tyres, valued at £25, at Taupaki, on March 31. There was also a further charge of obtaining £1 10/ from a firm of Auckland solicitors by false pretences.
Detective-Sergeant McHugh said that two other men who had been associated with Mold in the attempted theft at Taupaki were' last •week sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Mold "had previously been in trouble. In connection .with the second charge, Mold, while in Mount Eden prison, met another prisoner who happened to mention -.that lie had some money waiting to be collected at a solicitor's office. After leaving prison, Mold went to the_ solicitor's office, and, representing Imnself as his prisoner-friend, obtained f 1 10/. He admitted the offence when, interviewed by the police. Mold told the magistrate that he was not the ringleader in the affair at Taupaki on March 31, adding that he did not attempt to remove the tyres on his own.
"Yon received six months for theft as your last sentence, and as soon as you left prison you celebrated bjr committing the present offences," said the magistrate in sentencing Mold to two months' imprisonment on the first charge and one month on the' second, the terms to be cumulative. ,
