DECISION'S OV BOARD. APPOINTMENT OF DIETICIAN, . . Members of the Auckland Hospital Board met yesterday afternoon, the chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, presiding. Howick Nursing Service.—The' resignation of Mies Fronde was accepted. The appointment of a new nurse was left in the hands»of the chairman and the member for the district. ' Pukeora Sanatorium.—The Waipawa Hospital Board wrote concerning negotiations with the Health Department re the taking over of the Pukeora sanatorium. It was decided to inform the Waipawa. Board that the Auckland Board would continue to send patients to the sanatorium as long as it was necessary to do so.

Infirmary Water Supply.—A list of competitive prices for the proposed new water supply at the infirmary was submitted, it being stated that the total lowest price for all items was £1041. It was decided that the details, and also a report from the resident engineer should be referred to the building committee for consideration and a report.

Sick Nurses.—Mrs. Ividd asked what was the board's policy concerning nurses who became ill as the result of their duties. The matter was referred to the house committee.

Diet Supervisor.—lt was reported that only nine applications had been received, for the position of diet supervisor. Mr. M. J. Savage. M.P., said that the board should consider whether the salary offered was sufficiently large to attract t.he .right applicant. The matter was referred back to the house committee.

Veronal Compounds.—A report of a meeting of the finance and purchasing committee stated that the medical superintendent had been asked to report on the amount of veronal used in the hospital. and that the matter had been referred to the staff executive for comment, with a view to indicating the desirability of substituting other druss and generally adequately controlling the use of veronal and its various compounds.

Coal Supply.—The finance and purchasing committee advised that the tenderers for the supply of Waikato slack coal had reduced the price to the hospital l>y 2/6 per ton owing to keen competition. The price now charged the hospital was 17/ per ton delivered.

Dental Hospital.—lt was reported that the question of enlarging the dental hospital had been further considered by the finance committee and that a report was to be made to the building committee for consideration and recommendation.
