RADIO PROGRAMMES.

Did "J.G.8." insinuate any necessity for "grovelling before some imagined Deity," as so-called "Reform" revoltingly puts it? A peculiar taste, indeed, that boasts jazz to be as distasteful as hymn music. Who is to« denv that by means of this so-called dismal devotional service many homes have been made a brighter, better place to live in! "Reform's" heart requires reforming indeed, He sees, as in a glass, darkly. When his vision clears his ears unstopped, then perhaps, with the Psalmist he will say, "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the House of the Lord," and if unable so to do will rejoice, with hosts of others, in the opportunity to share in the privilege that is ours to start the day right in one's own home. As one of the younger generation I hope to get over the shock of "Reform's" statements, which will in others justifiably raise indignation. The remedy, as has been stated, is to switch off. That is a personal matter for the individual. As one who shamelessly confesses the need of "a closer walk with God, a calm and heavenly frame" (particularly in these times of depression), I trust that the present arrangement will continue. One may benefit physically from the proverbial bath, weekly or otherwise, but spiritual bathing demands more than a mere Sunday sluice, as a constant tonic. So "oil with the devotional services, and we can prove them capable of rollicking brightness in marching metre or otherwise, providing "Reform" and others are in tune. Even a good "talkie" fails to do down, well if one looks on in a grouchy mood. The man who never believed in things he could not see never had a flea in the middle of his back! DAVID HUGH WOODCOCK.
