WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

TE ATATU. Mrs. Moor presided over the general monthly meeting of Te Atatu Women's Institute, and wished the branch many happy returns of its birthday. After the usual business was over and the hospital work collected and distributed the president read a paper on dahlia culture. The birthday cake made by Mrs. Walters was cut by Mrs. Semadeni, jun., and tea was' handed round, the hostesses being Mesdames Chadwick, Walters and Farmilo.

MAROMAKU. The April meeting of the Maromaku branch of the Women's Institute was held at Miss Boese's residence, when Mrs. Ross presided. Demonstration of making a hand bouquet was given by Mrs. N. S. Mason. The roll call was an old photograph, and the first incident in life recollected. The competition articles made from sugar bags brought forth a splendid assortment, the prizes going to Mrs. Atkins, jun., first_ (child's dress and lady's hat); Mrs. Atkins, sen. (duster bag), and Mrs. Brydon (cushion) equal, second. Mesdames Clark and Boeee acted as judges. Mrs. Christie gave a pianoforte solo, and afternoon tea brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.
