LOW PRICES FOR SUGAR.
OUTPUT RESTRICTED. "In the first half of 1932 prices reached depths never before recorded, and although a rise occurred later and was sustained through most of the latter portion of the year, even the maximum prices must still have failed to meet the costs of production in the cheapest producing countries of the world," states the report of the Australian Sugar Producers' Association, Limited, for the year ended December 31 last. A wider survey of the position, however, the report continues, discovers elements of hope which hitherto have been absent. The mad pace of production has been checked, and largely through the efforts of the International Sugar Council the world's aggregate output has been reduced from nearly 20.000,000 tons in 1030-31 to about 26,000,000 tons for 1931-32, and less than 24,000,000 tons for 1932-33. 1
