FEW FIRES IN GISBORNE.
QUIETEST YEAR ON RECORD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, Sunday. At the annual meeting of the Gisborne Fire Board it was reported that the year just concluded was one of the quietest on record so far as the fire brigade was concerned. The calls totalled 32 only, compared with 52 in the previous year, and the amount of damage done was substantially below the average. Insurances paid on damaged buildings totalled £3335, and on contents £4538, while uninsured damage amounted only to £300.
