TE AROHA MEETING. F. SMITH WINS DOTTBIjE. PEGAWAY TAKES BIG RACE. The Te Aroha Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday was most successful. The weather was excellent, there was a good attendance, and the racing throughout interesting. The totalisator turnover was £10,840, compared with £8922 10/ last year, an increase of £1917 10/. The Takanini trainer F. Smith continued Ms run of successes, and provided the winning jipuhfe, taking tho Te Aroha Handicap with Pegaway, and the Farewell with Kewpie's Guy. Te Mahanga won a double, and paid a fair price each time. The Big Handicap. Kewpie's Guy and Brentlight were the only scratchings for the Te Aroha Trotting Handicap. Tho bracket, Pegaway and Pageant, was best supported, while Prince Pedro and First Flight also carried good amounts. Great Delight broke up at the start and lost a good deal of ground. When the field settled down Brent Zolock was in charge, and entering the last round he was leading Pegaway, Prince Pedro and Kewpie's Triumph. First Flight then moved up fast, and was second going out of the straight. Brent Zolock was still the pilot along the back from First Flight, Pegaway and Prince Pedro, who were all in close company, with Kewpie's Triumph and Pageant next. Crossing the top Brent Zolock began to tire and First Flight was the leader into the straight from Brent Zolock, Prince Pedro, Pegaway and Kewpie's Triumph. Pegaway then put in his claim, and went on to win easily by a length and a half from First Flight, who beat Prince Pedro by a similar distance. Then came Pageant, Kewpie's Triumph, Auto Machine and Brent Zolock, with Great Delight easing up. The Trotters' Race. All the acceptors went to the post for the Waihou Handicap, an event for unhopplcd trotters. Bessie Parrish, Explosion, and Billy Carbine were backed in that order on both machines, and the favourite had a very easy task, never causing her supporters the least anxiety. Billy Carbine was the early leader from Marble Star, Bessie Parrish, Zanzibar, and Explosion, and they went past the stands as named. Bessie Parrish ran to the front along the back from Zanzibar and Billy Carbine. There was no change entering the straight, where Bessie Parrish was ten lengths clear of Zanzibar, while at similar intervals came Billy Carbine and Explosion. Bessie Parrish went on to win comfortably by five lengths from Billy Carbine, who got up in time to beat the tiring Zanzibar by half a length. Explosion was fourth. The Concluding Event. The bracket Kewpie's Guy and Pageant was favourite for the Farewell Handicap, with which the meeting concluded, while Brentlight and Great Parrish were also supported.
