THE WHANGAREI CLUB. A STTCCESSFOT. MEETING, AT,T/>V WINS AUTUMN HANDICAP. The autumn meeting of the Whangarei Racing Club was concluded at Whangarei on Saturday in beautiful "weather. There •was a good attendance, much larger than on the opening day, and some interesting racing was provided. Alloy won the principal • event nicely from Jalldy Earo, while Hampton Park accounted for the Flying Handicap. During the day the sum of £8242 10/ was put through the totalisator, making a total of £14,379. There "was no autumn meeting last year, and compared "with the spring meeting last year this is an increase of £1452 10/. The Hurdlers. Neil, Ruby Dawn and Radiant Sun were best backed for the Parua Bay Hack Hurdles. From a good start Radiant Sun and Solanio were the first out. They came past the stand with Solanio leading Ruby Dawn, Radiant Sun, Zane Grey and Neil. Along the back the order was Solanio, Radiant Sun, Ruby Dawn, Zane Grey, Demylus and NeiL At the straight entrance Solanio was in charge from Zane Grey, Ruby Dawn and Demylus, and in the run to the judge Solanio finished best, to win I>y three-quarters of a length from Zane Grey, who was half a length in front of Demylus. Rugby Dawn was fourth, and then came Radiant Sun. An Easy Win. Vandyke and Delrain were scratched for the Flying Handicap. Manawhenua was favonrite on both machines, with Hampton Park next in demand. Hampton Park jumped out clear from Tea Chat and crossing the top was three lengths ahead of Karangapai, with Manawhenua, Hoihoma and Tea Chat following in that order. There was no change into the straight and Hampton Park went on to win comfortably by three lengths from Karangapai, who beat Manawhenua by two lengths. Hoihoma and Tea Chat were next. The Local Race. For the Ruatangata Handicap Snow Prince and Wharepuke were not saddled up. The public placed their faith in Monanui as first favourite on the straight-out machine, but Valadore was ■well supported on the place machine. From a fair dispateh Gainful !was the first to show out from Star Turn, Monanui, Blue Grey, and Black Marlin.- As they went across the top Star Turn was in front from Hone Heke, Blue Grey, Valadore, - and Monanui, who go,t stopped badly. The order into" the home stretch was the same, and Monanui came on to win by half a length, with half a length between Valadore and Blue Grey. Creation was fourth, followed ■ by Black Marlin and Star Turn. r Tatyoon at Last.. ■•, ~;•
