SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

At the annual meeting of the Bocial committee of the Otahuhu Golf Club, held at the clubhouse, the following officers were elected for the ensuing vear ..—President. Mrs. F. A gathering: took place, in St. Chad's Hall on Saturday evening to celebrate the coming of age of; Maicolm, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. MUfion, of Victoria Avenue, Rcmucra. ine toast in honour of the guest was pronosed by Mr. T, Watson. Dancing and games were indulged in. Items were supplied by Mr. 8. Stephenson and Mr. J. Read, and dance music by Mrs. Young and by Miss V. Young, Mr. C. Young, and Mr. M. Ellison. Mr, and Mrs. Ellison were assisted by their two daughters and also by Mrs. Behague, Mrs. Eead, and other friends. Hie hostess wore a frock of dov.e grey lace and crepe de chine. Among those present were: Mesdames J. Wilson, W. Behague, E. Young, E. Lovatt, R. Rostance, J.. Read, E. Keat, F. Otton, J. Moses, S' Chethean, G. Lambeth, Misses G. Watson, V. Young, D. Behague, M. Pugh, J. Young, M. Ridell, L. Fairweather, J. Keat, H. Sutherland, B. Jenkins, G. Wakefield, E. Sutherland, I. Shaw, C. Bond, N. Bond, P. Jeffrey, G. Jeffrey, J. Arthur, L. Rhodes, I. McCook, and A. Canavan.

Miss G. Nielson, of OtahuliU, was entertained by the choir, Bible class and Sunday school teaching staff of the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Otahuhu, at a social evening in the St. Andrew's Hall last week. At tho conclusion of addresses by the Rev. A. M. Elliffe, Messrs. W. Morton and McDonald, Mies Jean Morton, on behalf of the junior Bible class, presented Miss. Nielson with a beautiful bouquet, while on behalf of the ohoir, Sunday Bchool teachers and senior Bible class, Miss Y. Pinhey made a presentation of a silver cakestand. The recipient suitably responded. During the evening. a two-act play, "The Two Domestics," was staged. In the«first act the parts were portrayed by Misses M. Gardiner, C. Gardiner and B. Pinhey, the second act being presented by Misses C. Gardiner, S. McSporan and Y. Pinhey. Solos were sung by Mrs. Allan Box and Miss Edna Jones, and duets by Misses Ivy and Edna- Jones. Novelty competitions were held, the winners being Mrs. W. Morton, Miss Beryl Paine and Mr. J. Patterson.

The Women's Progressive Club, Y.W.C.A., members were entertained on Thursday evening by the Scotch members of the club. Mrs. Eobson presided. There were competitions, songs, and dances. The items wore rendered by Mosdaincs McGillvery, McDougall, Henderson, Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Keels, and the accompanist Was Mrs. Stewart. Supper was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Pocock, Murdock, and Kaughan.

The third Kemucra branch of the League of Mothers held a meeting on Thursday, April C, at the North Memorial Hall. Mrs. Hughes-Jones presided. Mrs. Soden spoke on the work of tho St. John Ambulance brigade, and gave somo instructions in first aid. Miss Armjjtago rendered several elocutionary items. The meeting closed with afternoon tea, served by tho hostess committee.

The Auckland district executive of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met recently at the temperance rooms. Mrs. Kasper presided. Arrangements were made for members to assist In the Poppy Day street collection to bo held shortly. Mrs. Kasper, district president, who was the delegate to the recent W.C.T.U. Dominion convention in Invercargill, gave a report of the convention proceedings. Tho Dominion convention presented both Miss Henderson (Dominion corresponding secretary) and Mrs. Ferryman (White Ribbon editor) with a birthday gift, in appreciation and acknowledgment of their 21 years' service in the work, and a warm tribute was_ also expressed to the Misses McLay for their faithful work as Dominion organisers during tho past year. A vote .of thanks was accorded Mrs. Kasper, and she was congratulated on being appointed tho Dominion sttpcrintendent of the Bchool of methods department.

The beautiful grounds surrounding the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. Law, Kolmar Road, Papatoetoe, were the scene of a successful garden party, organised by the Ladies' Social League of the Papatoetoe Methodist Church, on Saturday afternoon. Among tho attractions of the fete wcro clock golf, ladder and target croquet, and tennis, while one of the features was a baby bliow. The prizes were awarded by Nurse Saunders Jones, of Auckland, to Joan Reynolds and Warwick Bray (under six months), Graham Lovett, Colin anl Lloyd Rusterer, twins (seven to twelve months), Raewyn Firth (over twelve months). A sponge cake competition was won by Miss E. Farrand (with butter) and Mrs. Patterson (without butter). The stallholders of the cake, jumble and sweets stalls were: Mesdames Broberg, Hodgklnson, Calder, Misses Brown, S. Goldsworthy, R. De Lucn, and Cossey.
