On Autumn's first glad day. | They take their paints and paint the leaves In shades of gold and red, And waken the chrysanthemums, All fast asleep in bed. They call the sunbeams, down to tinge The rosy cheeks of apples sweet; And open with their cheery warmth. Waving fields of golden wheat. And when at last their work is done, The Autumn Fairies disappear;. They sink to rest in Nature's bower, 'Till Autumn calls them back next year. —Original. ,
