It was stated that when Roughsedge drove his transport wagon into Piatt's farmyard Piatt seized him. A noose ?t the end of a rope was put round Roughsedge's neck and he was pulled to the

ground, where his hands and ankles were tied. He was dragged 25 yards to the stable, where the rope was place! through a ring and held by Southern and Wright. Clothing Removed. Part of his clothing was removed, and Roughsedge was then thrashed by Piatt. Roughsedge, in evidence, said he was released after fifteen minutes, and whoa he tried to drive the motor van away he collapsed. Cross-examined. Roughsedge denied saying while iu the stable, "J deserve it." He also denied electing to be thrashed rather than go to court. Piatt, in evidence, said he gave Roughsedge the choice of publicity in the Divorce Court or a good beating, and he alleged that Roughsedge consented to the thrashing. It was accidental that the rope got round Roughsedge's neck as it was intended only to secure his body to prevent bill) from bolting. Roughsedge assisted to remove his own clothing, and after the beating he said, "I deserved it."
