TE AWAMUTU TRACKS.

JONATHAN AND SEA RULER. RURI'S NICE EFFORT. The course proper, about 24ft out from the rails, was available for fast work at Te Awamutu on Thursday morning. The going was excellent and much useful work was indulged in. The plough, hurdle, grass and inner grass tracks were open for pace work. The Course Proper.

Arawa Rose Was not moving above threequarter pace throughout four furlongs. This mare is not being hurried, but is " being allotted much useful pace work. Eager Rose was sent away from the sixfurlong barrier and was allowed to run '. home quietly in 1.25. Tenakoe completed a like task in 1.21. He was not bustled. From a standing start Impasto got away several lengths ahead of D'Artagnan at the five-furlong post. D'Artagnan was a long way back to take 1.6, Impaeto's time being 1.4. Ruri was responsible for a very useful effort over six furlongs, which he covered nicely in 1.18 3-5. Nothing on the tracks is working more pleasingly than this eon of Surveyor. His stable companion Marechal was allotted half a mile, but at no time was he doing his best to take 575. Goodfellow and Emancipation were worked slowly over two rounds, finisliing up by running the last six furlongs at a little stronger pace. They were together at the post, but were not timed. After running the first five furlongs in 1.9, Kanapa occupied 1.37 for seven furlongs. He was hitting out nicely throughout. A very pleasing task was done by Jonathan, who, in company _ with Sea Ruler, completed six furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Sea Ruler had a slight advantage at the finish, but Jonathan was being kept up to his work. Prolyxq had Safe Bank as a companion over a mile in 1.51 1-5. Safe Bank was not of much use to her, and she could have improved considerably upon that time. Loombination was under restraint while running four furlongs in 55 l-ss. . . , Among those working on the inner tracks were Rita's Light, King Comet, Musquil, Gallant Jack, Transaction, Sir Musk, Protomint, Campanero and Limeen. STABLE AND TRACK NOTES. RED MANFRED FOR RICCARTON. The crack Woodville two-year-old Red Manfred will contest the Champagne Stakes at Riccarton at Easter, and will be ridden by B. H. Morris. The Manfred colt is showing improvement all the time, and should finish up the season successfully. GOLDEN WINGS FOR ELLERSLIE. The brilliant sprinter Golden Wings will be a starter in the Easter Handicap at Auckland, his connections having decided on this event in preference to the Challenge Stakes at Riccarton (says our Woodville correspondent). The topweight is in splendid order at present, having done well since last racing, and will be ridden by his usual pilot, R. Reed.

IN GOOD FETTLE. ' D. Moraghan is giving United plenty of the right class of work to fit him for hi 3 engagements at Ellerslie, and the big Acre gelding looks in tip-top condition. United is not a good track galloper, but his effort over six furlongs on the course proper last Tuesday morning was the best he has recorded for some time past. This hack has done little racing during the present season, but now that he is becoming better conditioned more is likely to be heard of him. NOT BEING HURRIED. Taneriri has not been allotted any strenuous work since he raced at Te Rapa and H. Rama evidently intends to wait until the going is easier before he gives the Antagonist gelding a serious preparation. Taneriri is not engaged at the coming meeting at Ellerslie,.. but has been entered for the two chief handicap events at the Avondale meeting, to be held later on in the month. This horse thrives on plenty of hard work and may need a few races before reaching his real form. AN IMPROVED HACK. The win recorded by British Columbia in the Maungatapere Handicap on the first day at Whangarei was an impressive one, for he jumped out smartly at the start and led all the way. This hack has improved in his manners at the barrier considerably, and as he possesses plenty of speed further wins are likely to be in store for him. So far six furlongs appears to be quite far enough for the Top Gallant gelding, but he is only in his third year and may stay on better with age.

NOVICES AT PAHIATUA. Hazoor, who acted as runner-up to Rhea in the Trial Plate at Pahiatua, is a three-year-old gelding by Black Ronald (winner of the New Zealand Derby in 1923), from Moana, a mare that never raced. Hazoor, who is owned by Mr. W. H. Booth, a Wairarapa sportsman, was making his second appearance in public and 13 expected to develop into a useful sort. Quebec, who ran third in the same event, is a two-year-old half-brother to Gay Court. He has plenty of speed, but ran very greenly in his three previous contests. He is trained by H. J. Benge, at Trcntham.
