WOOL PRICES BETTER.
SALE AT WANGANUI. NINETY PER CENT SOLD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, Wednesday. Competition was keen at the final Wanganui wool sale of the season, which was held to-night. Values opened firm on late Wellington rates and showed an appreciable advance on those ruling at the Wanganui auction in February. A full bench of buyers, evidently appreciating that tnere was only one more Dominion sale this season, the Napier fixture, competed keenly for their requirements.
Compared with the February rates prices for fine crossbred, 46-48's, were higher by a halfpenny a pound; inferior was up by a halfpenny. Medium crossbred, 44 to 46's, average and inferior, was a farthing to a halfpenny dearer; coarse crossbred, 40 to 44's, a farthing to a halfpenny dearer, and prices for low crossbred, 36 to 40's, were at par. Hogget wool caused keen competition, and lots of good quality appreciated in price by a halfpenny to a penny a pound.
Bradford secured the bulk of the coai'se sorts of fleece wool, the finer types going to the Continent. Japan also competed for the better class of fleece wools. France was strongly in the market for bellies, pieces and lor good quality lambs wool. Australian mills also secured a proportion of lambs, and several good lines were taken by Bradford.
About DO- per cent of the total offering was sold. It was refreshing to see competition among buyers at ruling values.
