FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES.

MORNING OPENS QUIETLY. SOUTH BRITISH STILL HIGHER. A fair amount of business was put through on the local Stock Exchange yesterday afternoon, but this morning opened quietly, and only a single sale was recorded at the first call. Government stocks were in demand. Buyers raised their offers to £97 for the 3Yz's and to £98 for the 4's, but there were none offering. The banking and insurance sections were (steady, with few changes in quotations. Buyers for Auckland Gas 6 per cent debentures raised their offers jto £103, and for the ordinary shares £1 1/3 was available. For Wellington Gas shares £1 8/0 was offered. Guarantee Co-operative shares were offered cheaper, at 5/3, and a buyer came in for Dominion Breweries at 5/. Kempthorne, Prossers were quoted ex div., with buyers at £3 0/6. The Noon Call. At the noon call Bank of New Zealands were a shade easier, and changed hands at £2 4/7, with more offering at that figure. The strength of the insurance section was evidenced in a sale of South British at £3 4/3, after which holders asked £3 4/9. A parcel of Tooth's Brewery shares was offered at £1 15/6, and Gear Meats were available at £1 9/. Hill and Plummer's shares were on offer at 10/6.
