WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
RAGLAN. The monthly meeting was held in the supper room on March 21, when an exhibition of marqueting, enamelled pewter and brass was given by the members, who have been receiving instruction from Mrs. Collier, of Hamilton. A competition, arranged by Mrs. P. N. Bernard, was won by Mrs. O'Sullivan. This was followed by a reading by Mrs. F. N. Bernard. Final arrangements were made in connection with the old settlers' reunion.
PAPAKURA. The Papakura Women's Institute held a s6cial evening on Wednesday at a wheelbarrow fair. Five decorated barrows wpre placed around the hall, these forming miniature stalls. From these were sold cakes by Mesdames Brown and Peapili; vegetables, Mesdames Renwick 1 and W. Elliott; fruit, Mesdames Marwiek and Shaw; sweets, Mesdames Johnson and Spinley; luncheon dainties, Mesdames Houghton and Blair. A hardup parade brought out 13 entries and caused much amusement, the winners being. Mrs. Boagey first,' Mrs.. Franey second and Mrs. Baulf third. The mannequin parade created the greatest interest, a condition being that the materials of dresses were not to cost more than 3/. A great deal of thought had been used in the making of the dresses, and the judge, Mrs. G. McConnell, had a hard task. The winners were: —Mrs. Baulf first, Mrs. BroWn second, and Mrs. Houghton third. During the opening an interesting programme was given, the artists being Misses N. Jamisson and Spinley, Masters Ken and Ross Shaw, and a playlet by Mesdames Shaw, Lever, Baulf - and Messrs. Constable, Ballard and Baulf.
