BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL.
The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. G. Mills, presiding. Mayoral • Election. —A deputation from the Birkenhead Unemployed Association aisked the Mayor, Mr. G. Mills, to accept nomination for a further term of office. The Mayor deferred his decision. Dispensary.—The council agreed to support the suggestion from the Birkenhead Women's Association that the Auckland Hospital Board be asked to establish a dispensary in the borough. Donations—A donation of £1 1/ was made to members of the fire brigade and a like amount to the Birkdale Women's Institute. Amalgamation Conference.—lt was decided to call a conference at the Birkenhead Borough Council chambers to consider amalgamation of the North Shore boroughs, the Mayor of Auckland to be chairman. The date fixed on was Thursday, April 20, or, alternatively, Monday, April 24-. Kate Penalty.—The 10 per cent penalty on rates paid on March 31, instead of March 30, is not to be enforced. Collection of Eefuse.—The day for the monthly collection of refuse in the borough •was fixed for the last Friday in tlie'month and not the fourth Friday.
