TE KORERO For Boy Scouts

(By MICHAEL.)

ist Takapuna Wolf Cubs' Picnic,

On a vote of the Takapuna Wolf Cubs in council assembled some favoured a visit to the Zoo, but by a majority vote it was decided that we should take the trail to the Museum. So to the Museum on Saturday last we followed the flag, and a great time we had.

On the way we called in at the Tornquist lair and were photographed. It was a severe strain on the camera, and the nerves of the operator, but a line jungle picture was secured of the cubs and the old wolf. On arriving at the Museum, before commencing to explore its wonders, we assembled in the beautiful Hall of Memories. Here Akela said something about the great sacrifice of the brave men who gave their lives in the war, and that it was up to us to "do our best" to prove worthy of it. We dipped our flag while each six placed a wreath on the memorial plinth. Then we came to the salute, repeated the law, and made again our solemn promise of the wolf cub.

Mr. Archey, the curator of the Museum, had very kindly provided ua each with a sheet "of 16 questions about different things to be found in the cases in tho various courts. With pad and pencil we searched the jungle and found the hunting for the answers to these questions the most interesting game we had struck for a long time. We had lunch under the trees in the Domain and then went through the winter gardens and fernery, where the gardener kindly turned on the fountains for us to see the rainbow.

On our return to the Museum, Mr. 0. Graham met us in the Maori court and told us a lot about the early Maoris, their boats, weapons, houses, and clothes. More question hunting, after which some games in the Domain under the trees, and then tho old wolf set the trail for home. Everybody voted it a "corker" day.

Leys Pack Birthday. On Saturday last the Leys Institute pack celebrated its fourth birthday in truly magnificent style. At 5.30 p.m. the cubs of the pack, together with visitors from All Saints', Beresford, St. Columba's and Northcote pack sat down to a sumptuous tea provided by members of the committee. Immediately after the feast, games were conducted until 7.30, when an entertainment for parents and friends commenced. Tho guests were welcomed to the party by a squad of semaphore signallers, who sent an appropriate message. Before the Grand Howl was given to Metropolitan Commissioner Matheson, the CM. explained its meaning. Demonstration games followed, these showing how cub work is taught tho play way. A twenty-minute mass play, entitled "St. George to the Rescue," was staged, each cub in the pack playing a part. A twelve-foot dragon, with glowing elective eyes, and tail lamp complete, added much to the enjoyment of this amusing playlet. Six Rover Scouts figured in the programme when, just before supper, a "physical jerks'' display team revolted, and refused to stage their turn until supper was served. Dressed in the green jerseys, caps and abbreviated shorts of Wolf Cubs, these Rovers did their best to fill tho gap, acting as they believed cubs behaved. This turn caused the audience much laughter, but so hurt the dignity of the original "physical jerks"' team, that it volunteered to stage the display.

In the course of the evening the Hewer Cup for inter-six competition in camp was presented by Sir. Hewer, and handed over to Sixer Bill Bartono, of the Whites. On behalf of the cubs of the pack, Sixer Melville Tronson presented Bagheera with a collar box, upon the lid of which every cub in the pack had signed his name. Supper and Hie singing of the National Anthem brought an altogether enjoyable evening to a close.
