FIGURES AND FACES.

ANOTHER POPULAR PUZZLE. WORD CONSTRUCTION CONTEST FOR NEXT WEEK. Dear Boys and Girls,— As was expected, the figures and (aces competition proved very popular, scores of entries being received. The puzzle -was by no means easy to solve, yet, generally speaking, the work submitted was quite well done. Competitors, too, observed the rules', with the result that the Crocodile fed poorVy on only a dozen or so entries, most of which were not accompanied by Peter Pan's signature. O. Utting, 59, Prospect Terrace, Mount Eden, age 13, was the only competitor who succeeded in correctly pairing all 14 faces and figures, and to him the first prize of 7/6 was awarded. Three Budgeti'.es each had 12 pairs correct, and to these the remaining cash prizes were awarded. Neatness and age was taken into account in placing these entries, with the result that Marjory Pearson, age 13, was placed second on the list, and Cushla Dowd, age 13, third. The fourth award of half a crown went to sixteen-year-old Elsie Stuart. Certificates of merit •were given to competitors with eleven, ten and nine pairs correct. Where necessary, neatness and age were again taken into consideration. A novel type of word-building competition has been arranged for next week. From a single letter words must be built uo in stages in such a way that one letter is added at a time. This is a fascinating amusement and will, no doubt, appeal ST) to competitors.
