TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.

» ■ , , , OTAHUHU INSTITUTION. POLICY OF COMMITTEE. The principal of the Otahulm Technical High School, Mr: F. W. Martin, reported to the committee last night that the school was now officially gazetted, and the use of the term "Junior High School" was now discontinued. Forms 1 and 2 were now known as the intermediate department. The chairman, Mr. C. R. Petrie, discussing the intermediate section of the school, suggested that the policy of taking' Forms I. and 11. from Otahnhu and Man- j gere schools and shutting out pupils from Papatoetoe school until they had passed standard 6ix was not in the best interests of the school and the scholars. It was the duty of the committee to decide which side of the school was to be developed. Tf provision was to be made for Forms I. and 11. from all contributing schools it would be necessary to restrict the numbers of pupils in higher forms. He suggested the committee should .aim at making the Otahuhu Technical High School an institution to meet the technical needs for the district, even if this meant sacrificing Form I. in the meantime. The principal deprecated any attempt to interfere with the present policy, but members of the committee supported the chairman. It was decided that, with a view to completely meeting the requirements of the district as a Technical High School, the guiding principle should be to provide for the higher forms to the full capacity of the school buildings for the time being, so as to absorb as many pupils as possible of Standard VI. contributing schools, before taking pupils from Standard V.
