OTAHUHU BOROUGH.

The Otahuhu Borough. Council met on Thursday, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Sturgess Park. —The Otahuhu _ Rugby League Football Club wrote pointing out that they had a strong following in the borough and requested the use of the park on alternate Saturdays. A request was received from the Otahuhu Technical School for permission to use the park to train the boys for their athletic sports. Both requests were referred to the parks committee. ■ Street Collection. —A request from the Young Women's Christian Association for permission to make a street collection on June 23 was refused. Library.—The Otahuhu Library Committee pointed out that in view of the existing depression the library was called upon more and more to supply the reading public with literature, and more especially new books, and the committee found it impossible to do so out of its own funds, and requested additional assistance. The request was referred to the lezal and finance committee. Open-air Dance.—The parks committee reported that an application had been received from the band for permission to hold an open-air dance, and that "permission had been refused. Games on Sunday—The parks committee reported that they had received a complaint that cricket was being played on Seaside Park on Sundays, contrary to the by-laws. They had given the foreman instructions to erect a notice that such games were illegal, and that in future offenders be prosecuted.
