EXPORT OF LAMBS.
DECREASE THIS SEASON. BUT HEAVIER WEIGHTS. In the report issued by the directors of the New Zealand Refrigerating Co., the chairman, Mr. W. H. E. Flint, said, inter ■alia: —"The killings of sheep and lambs last year created new records,. and the total number of carcases exported was 2,000,000 more than in the previous highest export year. The export was probably in excess of the economic limit. At all events, live stock in the Dominion shows a reduction of more than 1,000,000, including more than 500,000 breeding ewes. This points to somewhat smaller quanti-. ties this year, particularly sheep, and the probability of smaller lamb killings next yeai. "As though to make up for a shortage of numbers, the weight of lambs being killed this year is considerably greater than it has been "during the past few years, a fact which is demonstrated when I tell you that we are getting 30 per cent of prime lambs over 361b in weight, where last year we got only 15 per cent."
