LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
PONSONBY UNITED CLUB. Presiding over a good attendance at the twenty-third annual meeting of the Poiisonby United Rugby League Club held in the Leys Institute last evening, Mr. Nelson Culpan complimented members on the sound position maintained on and off the field. The report indicated that the club won seven out of ten matches in the championship to be runners-up. More complete success was militated against by the failure o£ some reserve grade players to realise the importance of placing club and not team interests first, in accordance with the Auckland League's object of creating the reserve or "nursery" grade. The latter team, prior to the unfortunate suspension of nine members had had only one defeat in nine matches. The work of the lower grade teams, particularly the third open, which won the championship, was extolled. The treasurer, Mr. E. C. McEwan, reported that the general account stood in credit by £39 15/, while the total credit in the bank and building fund was £390 elected were: Patron, Mr. A. H. McKeown; president, Mr. C. A. Brown and the secretary, treasurer and coaches, V. Fagan was appointed club captain to succeed L. Riley, and Mr. B. Longbottom was appointed sole selector for senior teams. Arising from this matter, .it was decided to urge the Auckland League to play reserve seniors on the same ground as the top teams to conserve general playing efficiency and proper selection needs. Frank Delgrosso, who has been a senior playing member of the club since 1919, was presented with a life membership medallion. Delgrosso also received Mr. J. Arneil, jun.'s, medal for the most consistent back during last season.
