A "scrip" certificate is an intermediary document (generally in connection with foreign bonds), which may be passed from hand to hand. It is delivered finally in exchange for a proper certificate. The term " scrip " is very often misapplied to ordinary certificates of trading companies. Another way of expressing the difference between the two is that the " scrip " is an unregistered certificate.
