GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

l PRICES ARE FALLING. LOW RATES ALL BOUND. Falling prices are still a chief feature of the local grain and produce markets. The ■ decline in rates has had the effect of stimulating consumption in most lines, but there is virtually no speculative business, as merchants are not prepared to take the risk of values going still lower. There is still N a big surplus of potatoes available from numerous sources for city consumption and there is therefore very little call upon merchants for supplies. The same remark applies to onions. Potatoes are quoted, ex trucks at Pukekohe, 2/6 per cwt and onions at 4/6. Oats and Chaff. The demand for horse feed is slack and the market is weak. Merchants have dropped their rates for B Gartons to 3/ per bushel and for chaff to £6 15/ per ton. Everything points to low rates ruling during the present season, as the Southern field is heavy and is being harvested under favourable conditions. Wheat. N The wheat market is unaltered, with merchants asking 5/6 per bushel through store for new season's Blenheim. A further reduction in values may be expected when Canterbury supplies become available, as the comparatively small advances made to Southern growers by the Marketing Board for milling wheat will tend to weaken the fowl wheat market. Maizo. The maize market continues steady, as growers are holding more firmly now a. higher exchange rate is likely to put a check on importations from South Africa. Pollard and Bran. Pollard is in rather short supply. Only small supplies are obtainable from the South and there.is a ready sale for Australian at a substantial premium over local mill prices. Bran is still dull of sale. Wholesale Current Prices. Pollard and Bran.—Mill prices: Pollard, £6 per ton; bran, £5 10/ per ton.
