HENDERSON NEWS.
At the monthly meeting of the Henderon branch of the Women's Institute, Mrs. 3 M. Stuart presided over a good attend ince -.of members, and Mrs. R. Laurie icted as secretary. After a business lession Mrs. Dudley Gorman gave an iddress on "Norfolk Island, where she las been residing for some time, and to which she is returning next month. Mrs. Dorman is a life .mender of the institute, Mrs. E. B. Smith gave an instructive demonstration of wool work on md also showed interesting samples. Mrs Loring and Mrs. Booth volunteered a( garden supervisors for February, Mrs Stlassey and Mrs. Eason were elected a* the Sunshine Benevolent Committee, anc Mrs. Corban was received as a new member. Mrs. Morris won the dahlia sompetition with some very fine blooms The hostesses for the evening were Mrs, Borid and Mrs. Smith. _ The younger generation m Henderson showed great interest recently when it became known that Patricia, the youngest laughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Johnson, ol Henderson, had gained the honour of being the New Zealand champion swimmer for the. 50 and 100 yards free style (junior Her first win was obtained at the jo- e of 10, while she was a pupil at the Henderson „ Public School, and her next success was at the Seddon Memorial Technical College. This was followed by winning the Auckland championship, and finally the New Zealand championship. She also holds the cup for the 100 yds foot race at the Henderson School, these successes being a distinct achievement for a girl of 13 years.
