GREAT BUSINESS.
BOOM IN KAFFIR STOCKS. LONDON, February 5. Interest on the London Stock Exchange in the last few days has been centred in shares in South African gold mines (Kaffirs). On Friday there was a real boom in them. Business began in the street an hour before the Stock Exchange opened and when the House closed it was resumed in the street, where buyers were active until 7 p.m. Orders flowed in from all over Britain, many parts of the Continent, and even from Australia.
Brokers found it physically impossible to book all their orders. At the height of business two of them collapsed and one had to be taken to hospital. Prices for practically all Kaffir shares advanced materially and profit-taking sales had no effect.
