POSITION OF WOOL. (Received 30 a.m.) LONDON, February i. Mr. Devereux, representative of the Australian Wool Council, reports as follows: — The wool sales In London have continued active. There has been .some irregularity due to spasmodic competition on the part of Continental buyers. Merinos have shown some slight easing, but still average about 5 per cent abovDecember closing rates. Fine crossbred*: continue to be eagerly bought, and substantial business has been done in medium and low crossbred tops for export. Machinery activity is poor. Trade in France is quieter, iargely owing to politics " COTTON, RUBBER, JUTE, ETC. (Quotations'on January 27 in parentheses.) Cotton—Spot, 4.94 d (5.15 d a lb); March delivery, 4.73 d (4.89 d February). Rubber.—Para, 4%d (4%d) a lb; plantation and smoked, 2%d (2 5-32 d). Jute.—February-March shipments, £14 12/6 (£l4-12/6, January-February), a ton. Copra. — February-March shipments, South Sea, £12 5/ (£l2 17/6) a ton; plantation, Kabaul, £12 7/6 (£l3). Linseed Oil.—£l7 (£l7 15/) a ton. Turpentine.—6s/9 (66/) a owt.
