WEEK-END PICNICS.

Several enjoyable picnics were held at the pleasure resorts round Auckland during the week-end. Motuihi Island was the spot selected for the annual picnic of Abel, Dykes, Ltd. There was an attendance of about 70 people. Results of the sports competitions were :—Ladies' guessing competition : Mrs. Kutledge. Ladies' nail-driving; Mrs. Paterson. Men's guessing competition : Mr. D. Bradney. Race for boys under 12: O. Rutledge 1, D. Hogg 2. Race for girls under 12: P. Smith 1, G. Rutledge 2. Marquis of Lome plate : T. Rutledge 1, F. Gapes and A Whitehead 2. Employees' handicap, men :D. Stubbing 1. T. Rutledge 2. Ladies : 1. Smith 1, O. Elliott 2. Sack race: D. Stubbing 1, H. Jenks 2. Departmental relay: Office 1, Compositors 2. Cigarette race :* Miss Stych and H. Jenks 1, Miss Taylor and R. Saunders 2. Egg and spoon race: Miss Abel 1, Miss Lagor 2. Balloon race: Miss Taylor and R. Saunders 1. Swimming race: H. Jenks 1, D. Stubbing — The Post and Telegraph engineers held their picnic at Motuihi. Each child was given a toy, ice cream and sweets. About 350 people attended. A series of tug-of-war contests was won by the team captained by J. Brosnan, who met the cable joiners in the final. . . Close on 500 people attended the picnic held bv the Grey Lynn branch of the Labour'party at Motuihi. yesterday. Music was played by an orchestra during the trip and community singing was held. Members of the- Mount Eden . Relief Workers' Association held a picnic at Ferndale yesterday, about 150 people attending. Sports events were held and 40 prizes were presented. Results were : —IOO yards championship : M. Wakefield 1, F. Schroder 2. P. Morrison 3. One mile steeplechase: M. Wakefield 1, A. Cameron 2. Relay, 75 vards. mixed event: N. Young and K. Wakefield 1, G. Wakefield and F. Reeves 2. 75 yards single Indies: N. Young 1, .G. Wakefield 2. 100 yards boys aged 12-15: A. Austin 1, J. McCarthy 2. Veterans' race. 100 yards: A. Austin 1, A. McDwyor 2. P. Morrison 3. Married indies' race, 75 yards: Mrs. Cook 1, Mrs. Hall 2. Girls' race, 12 to 15 years, 75= yards: M. Irwin 1, V. Anderson 2. The IZR picnic was held at Pine Island on Saturday, when there were between 700 and SOO present. During the afternoon Flight-Lieutenant Allen, from the Mahgere Aerodrome, gave an exhibition of flying over .the island. The sports results were :—IZR officials, 50 yards: Bill Ilindnian 1, -I.
