AMUSEMENTS. ; UNQUALIFIED TRIUMPH OF . ' DAME SYBIL THORNDIKE. A REVELATION IN 1 PERFECT ARTISTRY. On Saturday Night Dame Sylbil Thorndike captured the affections of the large audience which witnessed 1 her first appearance here in "Captain Brassbound's Conversion." Her genius was manifested to a high degree in the exhilarating role of Lady Cicely Waynflete, which is undoubtedly one of Bernard Shaw's finest creations. The audience saw Dame Sybil as a Shavian prototype of the et&'nal feminine, logically impossible, delightfully absurd, ibut so often indubitably right, mothering scoundrels and cut-throats, and succeeding with womanly intuition and wit in remoulding the lives of everyone with whom she came in contact. The whole performance was a revelation in perfect artistry, and the wonderful demonstration which happened at the close of the performance was a fitting finale to a memorable occasion.
