Ruth Park, 129, Symonds Street, age 15, is the author of "Awakening," a short piece which was awarded the usual 5/ prize in l the fortnightly competition. Work of almost equal merit was . submitted by Noelle Macdonald, Remuera, age 15, and Elba FlaveH, Hawera, age 15. "Smoke," by Gwen Evans, will be published, but cannot be entered for competition because the author is over the age limit. Other work to be published was sent in by Rosalys Rowe, Ellerslie; Bernice Bryant, New Lynn; Jean Small, Remuera; Josephine Gilroy, Epsom; Audrey Watson, Remuera; Edna Harvey, Newton; Maureen Burns, Milford; and Jessie Meikle, New Lynn.
