After a recess of seven weeks the second session of the twenty-fourth Parliament was resumed this afternoon. Practically all members have arrived in Wellington and there is an atmosphere of suppressed excitement in Parliament Buildings. The Government's plans for the business of the House are uncertain at the moment. A start will be made with serious business to-morrow morning, when the Prime Minister will make a policy statement setting out the proposals to be submitted to members.
The two leaders cf the Coalition were in conference with Treasury officials today, and Mr. Forbes was busily engaged in adding the finishing touches to his statement.
Cabinet, wliich met for four liours last night, reassembled at noon. '
The Prime Minister said this morning that the Banking Indemnity Bill will be proceeded with first. Its introduction is expected to-morrow, when the House will meet in the morning.
A debate on the Governor-General's Message transmitting the bill to the House is inevitable. The main debate, of course, will occur on the second reading and it is at this stage that Mr. Downie Stewart is expected to state his position.
Tlic afternoon sitting of the House will be brief, as it is intended to adjourn as a mark of respect to the late Messrs. Taplcy and Horn after resolutions of condolence have been adopted.
