SHACKS BURGLED.
ISLINGTON BAY COMPLAINTS. ONE MAN LOSES SUM OF £60. Allegations that several burglaries had taken place during the past season among the shacks at Islington Bay, Rangitoto Island, were made to the Devonport Borough Council last evening by a deputation representing 45 holders of baches. The statements were made by Mr. E. W. Sharp, leader of the deputation, in pressing home the need for a ranger to be appointed for the Islington Bay section, in addition to the present ranger for the whole island.
Mr. Sharp said that he knew on firstclass authority that several baches had been entered while their owners were away, and various articles stolen. He knew of a case where one man had lost £t>o through a visit being made to his place while he wao absent.
The deputation urged the appointment of an honorary ranger, to be nominated by residents, who would be responsible for the maintenance of order in the resort. The board agreed to this proposal tentatively, but decided that it should receive further consideration.
